Gordon Goldman was born in 1927 in Chicago and lived a life “crowned with a good name.” He was known for his positive attitude, kind words about others, and sincere appreciation for acts of kindness. His own acts of kindness were many, including charitable giving to many eclectic causes. His integrity, grace, and respect for others made him beloved by his family and many friends.

Family was central to Gordon’s life. He was a devoted son, even helping his parents purchase a home using his GI Bill benefits. He was exceptionally close to his two brothers, nieces, aunts and uncles, daughter and son-in-law, and grandchildren. As the family genealogist and photographer, he lovingly researched and preserved family histories for future generations.

Gordon was proud of his two years of service in the US Navy during WW2. His reflections are preserved in an interview in the Pritzker Military Museum archive. After the war, the GI Bill enabled Gordon to become the first in his family to graduate from college. He attended Roosevelt University and the University of Illinois, earning a master’s degree in mathematics. He devoted 33 years to teaching mathematics and served as Department Chair at Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago.

His Navy service in the Mediterranean sparked a lifelong passion for international travel. During summer breaks and a sabbatical year, Gordon explored Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, India and Pakistan, and North and South America. He embraced diverse cultures and enjoyed opera, theatre, ballet, music, and movies. He was also a Life Master duplicate bridge player. He delighted in sharing his many interests with family and friends.

Gordon leaves a legacy of caring, kindness, service, and devotion to his family, friends, students, and country. May his good name be bound up in the bond of eternal life.
