M. Gerald Fried

M. Gerald Fried’s self driven journey to yiddishkeit was impressive. His decision to become frum was tackled with the same enthusiasm that he devoted to all the important undertakings of his life. He attended classes, had a steady chavrusa for 15 years, and was deliberate about the sanctity of davening in shul. He woke up at dawn for years to attend Daf Yomi, even when chronic pain prevented easy movement. He regularly provided his children with seforim and books and his grandchildren with an abundance of Jewish children’s literature. His generosity was as exuberant as his personality. He lavished gifts on his children and grandchildren, for all special occasions and sometimes for no reason at all. He thought of his loved ones constantly, taking a keen interest in the details of their lives, asking questions and offering help where he thought necessary. His legacy includes 2 sons and a beloved daughter, 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.
