Arnold Shkolnik, M.D., was a loving husband, beloved family member, dedicated physician, and compassionate, caring man. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, knowledge, and care for others. Arnie’s unwavering commitment to his family, colleagues, patients, and friends left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

After graduating from medical school, Arnie embarked on a residency in pediatrics.  His training was interrupted upon being drafted into the army, attaining the rank of captain by the time he was discharged.  He returned to complete his residency and a fellowship in endocrinology before joining a private practice as a pediatrician.  After five years in practice, Arnie decided to pursue training in radiology.  He completed a residency and fellowship in pediatric radiology and began what ended up being a 40-year career at Children’s Memorial (now Lurie Children’s) Hospital as a pediatric radiologist.  Arnie was very well respected in his field.  He was widely published, he lectured nationally and internationally, and he attained the rank of full professor of radiology at Northwestern University.  Arnie was one of the pioneers in the use of ultrasound, being one of the first radiologists to use it in the pediatric setting.  In addition to his expertise, Arnie was especially known for his compassion and empathy for patients, staff, and colleagues.

Family was extremely important to Arnie. He kept tabs on everyone and was always there for support in any way possible. He was exceptionally generous with both his time and his finances. Arnie was adored by his entire extended family.  May his memory serve as both a blessing and an inspiration to all.
